Tour in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh

When planning a trip to Cambodia, although limited only to the temples of Angkor, it is good to include in the program a day in the capital Phnom Penh to visit at least the complex of the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda, the National Museum and the Pagoda of Wat Phnom.

The tour to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, begins from the Royal Palace built in 1860 by King Norodom I as the residence of his family. The "Royal Palace" is actually a series of buildings surrounded by gardens and spacious courtyards, each having different functions (especially religious and ceremonial). The courtyard around the Palace of the Throne is surrounded by hedges and flower beds with tropical vegetation.

In the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh there are large gardens where there are also small pools with water lilies.
SilverPagoda
The Silver Pagoda in Phnom Penh is located in the Royal Palace and it is so called because the floor is tiled with 5000 silver tiles. Inside the temple there is a large collection of statues in gold, including a golden statue of Buddha in actual size decorated with almost 10,000 diamonds. The value of the findings of this temple is invaluable and inside any type of video or photo is prohibited.

The courtyard surrounding the Silver Pagoda and also home to some large stupa, the typical funerary monuments (picture on the right).

The trip to Phnom Penh continues with the visit of the National Museum of Cambodia, where inside many original artifacts from the temples of Angkor are contained; they are kept here to prevent theft or damage by the weather or rude tourists. No photos allowed inside the museum .

Due to its age, the pagoda of Wat Phnom has obviously undergone several restoration processes. The interior has many statues and a large area where the believers can pray.

According to a legend Phnom Penh was founded by a lady named Daun Penh, represented by this statue placed in the temple of Wat Phnom.
