Excursion to Athuruga, Ari atoll, Maldives islands
Day trip from Thudufushi to its sister island of Athuruga,
for more interesting snorkeling and additional sightseeing. The reef in Athuruga is not beautiful like that in Thudufushi, however, in Athuruga I met dozens of baby sharks and many eagle rays, species that I didn't see in Thudufushi.
Because of a Thudufushi vs. Athuruga soccer derby, an excursion to Athuruga, about 1 hour away by dhoni boat, is offered toady for free.

The wide beach on one side of Athuruga, now used like a small stadium.
Pictures of Athuruga. Like the sister island Thudufushi, Athuruga can be walked all around in less than 15 minutes.
The interior part of Athuruga is, like Thudufushi, covered by a dense vegetation and white sand.
And now... snorkeling!
I soon spot some eagle ray...
...many colorful fishes...
...and a turtle!
Anemon with clown fishes.
Athuruga is known because, thanks to the position in the middle of Ari atoll, the island is a favourite place for baby sharks.

Often the baby sharks get very close to the beach.

After the soccer derby, won by Thudufushi, we go back to our island just in time for the sunset.
