Excursion to Everest Base Camp (5350m) and trek to Lobuche (4930m)
27 December 2005 - Departure time : 08:00 - Rest: 13:30 / 14:30 - Arrival time: 17:00
Trekking to Everest Base Camp and then back to Lobuche, via Gorak Shep. Excursion to Everest Base Camp from Gorak Shep, to get a glimpse of the life of people climbing Everest, although in this season there are no tents and the base camp is actually deserted. The landscape is anyway very beautiful and dominated by Khumbu glacier with its odd moraine.
Everest Base Camp excursion. I hike north of Gorak Shep, along the Khumbu moraine, toward the Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
The Khumbu glacier moraine has massive stones mixed to huge blocks of ice. Regardless of the cold and the altitude, also these himalayan glaciers are reducing because of the global warming.
Himalayan vegetation. Flowers and lichens above 5000 meters of altitude.
