Driving in the Sonora Desert
/ Arizona - Driving thru Sonora desert in southern Arizona with our rented car, between arid landscape and fields of cotton. The landscape alternates between rocky hills and flats, when we meet the first succulent plants and the saguaros.
Firstly mountainous in California, everything becomes much more flat after passing the Arizona's State line.
Crossing the Arizona/California border, near Yuma.
Me close to a beautiful Foqueria (on the left) and under a Saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) in the center.
It is very frequent to see fields of cotton in the Sonora desert. The very dry climate makes these lands ideal for crops like this.
Getting closer to the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, the vegetation increases a little and there are much more Saguaro and other cactus.
