Adventure on the Icecap in Greenland - trekking over the ice
August 15th-18th, 2001
Ice Camp Eqi in northern Greenland offers basic accommodation in front of Eqi Sermia glacier, through charming wooden cabins and a resturant. From here, several excursions, as well as true expeditions to icecap, are available.
The adventure starts in Ilulissat when I board a small jet boat. The trip to Ice Camp Eqi is about two hours long, between huge icebergs of bizzarre shapes and outstanding scenery.
Approaching Port Victor. The buildings on the hill are the cabins where I'll stay for several days.
The beautiful Eqi glacier, with a front several miles wide.

My cabin and the wonderful scenery visible from the balcony. I am just a few miles from the front of the Eqi glacier. Often, with a big thunder, some part of the glacier collapses into the water, creating a new iceberg.
With a 30 minutes walk, it is possible to reach this nice beach where there isn't any other human's footprint.
Lichens and small flowers grow almost everywhere, even directly on the rocks.
Excursion along the lateral moraine of Eqi glacier, that can be reached with about 1 hour walk from Ice Camp Eqi.

Eqi's glacier front is very nice, having often a beautiful blue color.
Navigating in the fjord, before going back to Ilulissat.
