Day tour in Namche Bazaar (3450m) the Sherpa's capital
20 December 2005
Rest day for acclimatization in Namche Bazaar, the capital of Khumbu region. A day tour of Namche Bazaar with a short trekking on an hill behind, is the ideal way to acclimatize to high altitude before trekking higher. A single overnight in Namche Bazaar is generally not advisable because you may not acclimatize properly (spending two nights in Namche Bazaar is much better).
Two panoramic pictures of Namche Bazaar, Nepal. Namche Bazaar is considered the capital of the Khumbu region and Sherpa people.
Namche Bazar seen from an hill behind the town.
Photos from an hilltop above Namche Baazaar, where there is a beautiful view of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and the trail to Tengboche that I'll hike the next day.

The charming dining room and verandah of the lodge in Namche Bazaar.
In Namche Baazar there are many stores selling souveniers and mountain equipment. There are also several internet points, offering reliable connections. Namche Bazaar is usually the last stop for shopping and to recharge camera's batteries before continuining higher.
