Flight to Lukla (2840m) and trek to Phakdingma (2650m)
18 December 2005 - Departure time 09:00 - Rest: 11:30 / 13:00 - Arrival time: 15:30
Trekking from Lukla airstrip to Phakdingma for the first teahouse overnight in the middle of the Himalayas, after a spectacular flight from Kathmandu to Lukla in Nepal. Today the altitude is still moderate, but above 2500 meters, so I start to acclimatize slowly to the thin air.
I board this Yeti Airlines Twin Otter in Kathmandu, for a spectacular 45 minutes flight to Lukla.
Flying to the Himalaya
The mountains around the Lukla runway.
Landing in Lukla. The unusual sloping runway in Lukla.
Photo of Lukla. The trekking is now starting, the today destination is Phakdingma, for the first overnight in a teahouse.
The trail crosses many small towns. I see Sherpa porters and yaks, often carrying heavy loads.
Yaks transporting goods between Himalayan villages.
Along the trail is quite frequently to see stupas, chortens and small temples.
