GREECE AND RHODES INFORMATION

Rhodes island is the biggest of Dodecanese archipelago in Greece and is a popular vacation destination for families and singles. We have chosen Rhodes island for our summer trip, because of varying landscape and attractions, from beautiful sandy beaches, to mountains and ancient towns rich of culture and archaeological sites. Rhodes is interesting for families with children or young people, because of the available daily activities like water sports and organized excursions by boat or tourist bus through the island. The base for our trip to Rhodes was a small resort in Stegna bay, a charming place still not affected by mass tourism. From here, we had relaxing days on the beach and did several excursions all over the island, by rented car, tourist bus or chartered boat, depending on the itinerary and the things to see. Popular destinations on Rhodes islands for day tour or shorter excursions, are small secluded beaches that can be reached only by boat, old charming towns like ancient Rhodes and Lindos with its interesting acropolis, the archaeological site in Kamiros, Sianna (a small mountain town) and Prasonisi, a place where the Mediterranean sea meets the Aegean, where many people doing windsurf and skysurf meet together from all over the world, because of the wind and the waves. Very interesting also the butterfly valley where thousands of butterflies meet together in summer for reproduction. How to reach Rhodes ? The island is served by many scheduled and charter flights, from all over Europe. Cars for rent are available once on place, in addition to tourist buses and small boats. This Rhodes travelogue includes also a few pictures of Athens, taken during a business trip to Greece several years before (we plan to visit Athens again, allowing more time, when it will be possible).
